Celebrate College Awareness Day on January 10

Ready to spread the word about college?

We are excited to announce that for the fifth year in a row, New York City public schools will be celebrating College Awareness Day on Friday, January 10, 2020.

College Awareness Day is the DOE’s citywide celebration of college attendance. It is a day dedicated to encouraging students and families to explore the various paths to college and other post-secondary programs that can help make their dreams possible.

This year’s theme for College Awareness Day is “Best of the Boros: College Access Edition 2.0!” and throughout the day, schools across the City will be leading in-class discussions with students, hosting alumni events, facilitating door-decorating contests, providing early college awareness workshops for students and families, and more.

To show support for College Awareness Day, we’re asking all New Yorkers, including parents, DOE staff members, older students, and City schools alumni, to consider wearing apparel from your former/favorite college throughout the day on January 10. We also encourage everyone to join the conversation online by using the tag #CollegeAwarenessDay on social media.

College Awareness Day is supported by the DOE’s College Access for All: Middle School initiative, which aims to empower and support middle schoolers’ dreams of going to and succeeding in college.

To learn more about how your school will celebrate College Awareness Day, please contact your school’s parent coordinator. You may also email nyccollegeaccessms@schools.nyc.gov to learn more about College Awareness Day or the College Access for All: Middle School initiative.

See you on January 10, 2020!
